RARE VTG 1970s ANIMAL RAINBOW Diana Leslie VICTORIAN REVIVAL 3Pc MOHAIR Ensemble

Extremely hard to find, Late 1970’s-Early 1980’s “Animal Rainbow” Mohair Knit 3-Piece Suit, Victorian Revival. Split Skirt (we called them “gauchos” back then), gored through the hips which fall into soft pleats. Covered ball-buttons down bodice front, kick-up shoulders, fine “V” pleating down front/rear. The Cape is very full, asymmetric high-low which has a ruffled hemstitch. Cape fastens at the front with covered metal hooks & eyes, then ties at the rear waist. This is an AMAZING suit. All pieces are Unlined & all retain the same labels. Bodice measures Chest-34″, Waist-27″, Sleeve-24″, Shoulder seam to seam-15 1/2″, Length nape seam to hem-20 1/4″. Skirt Waist-26″ (buttons can be moved over 1 1/2″), Hip-36-38″, Length-31 3/4″. Cape waist is open. Diana Leslie was based in London in the 1970s-Early 1980s, her business “Animal Rainbow” (named after a Ted Hughes Poem), had a very short run. She & her husband owned a store called “Countdown” in Greenwich Village, many of her clientele were actresses (Bette Midler) & artists. Her designs were very design forward for the times, she was known for her dramatic & graceful Knitwear. All 3 pieces appear never worn, not a single moth hole, nor stain, pristine condition.
