Abe Schrader Womens Checkered Coat Dress Set 60s 70s Patriotic Red White Blue 12

Description

This tailored Coat and Dress set is a rare find and was produced between 1964 and 1973. It comes in a patriotic Red, White and Blue plaid/block/irregular checker pattern.  The ensemble is an Abe Schrader original and according to the tags, custom made for a VIP, likely for a special public event.  The tags identify the two as products of the
International Ladies Garment Workers Union (ILGWU) AFLCIO.  The tags in the coat also bear the famous Miller & Rhoads logo, a widely known department store in Richmond, Virginia, as well as, the also well-know Virginia Room, located on it's second floor.
The dress and coat are a half a century old and in overall, very good condition.  There are some small areas where there is some yellowing, loose threads, as well as a small pencil eraser-sized stain on the coat exterior.  The material is quality and weighty.  Together the coat and dress weigh about 4 pounds and six ounces.  The set boasts simple, clean lines.  The dress is lined.  The coat is lined in a blue satin-type fabric.  It does have some staining (interior).  The exterior material is likely a cotton or wool blend.
Both the dress and coat have hidden pockets.  The coat has a rear pleat/split, ten decorative buttons, two pockets and a button closure.  The dress has a sleeveless fitted bodice, a front pleat/split, four decorative buttons, two hidden pockets and a rear zip closure.  The sleeveless dress has a single ribbon detail at the neckline.  The dress does not come with a belt.
